BEST'S Golf Guide to Mexico's Target Golf Newsletter

February, 2010

Dear Target Golf Amigos,

Positive signs of renewed interest for golf and travel in Mexico appears in the key markets of Los Cabos, Cancun and the Vallarta's. Increased flight loads are due in part to some reduced schedules but also in part to aggressive hotel pricing, added value green fees and more importantly a rebound in interest from US and Canadian Golfers.

Some outstanding new golf courses have recently opened including a great links course in Los Cabos. The first on the Pacific side is the Diamante Dunes course designed by PGA veteran Davis Love III. Golfers are giving this course high marks not only for its layout but more importantly the level of personalized service including well trained caddies. On the opposite side of Los Cabos, close to San Jose del Cabo is the newest of Jack Nicklaus creations; the oceanside nine at Puerto Los Cabos. Mr. Nicklaus was in town to have a ribbon cutting and walk through that consisted of a playing exhibition, clinic and press conference.

In Mr. Nicklaus says that at seventy, he no longer plays golf. Don't understand completely his way of thinking...he had targeted tee shots, crisp irons and nothing more than two putts. I'd take his game any day of the week. His nine holes complements the Greg Norman nine at Puerto Los Cabos and beckons to be played by one and all on your next visit to Los Cabos.

Up the road in between Los Cabos and La Paz and now ready for play is the first Tom Doak golf course in Mexico at Bahia de los Sueños. Make the effort to play this great golf course and enjoy the Grand Sueños boutique suites...you may want to stay for a while.

Yucatan Country Club will finally have its day of fame at its grand opening in April with Jack Nicklaus present for the event and when they will be the recipient of the BEST's Golf Guide award for the TOP new PRIVATE Country Club in Mexico.

The PGA Tournament at Mayakobá was held last weekend in Cancun/Riviera Maya area followed by four Canadian Tour events in Mazatlan, Punta Mita, Merida and San Luis Potosi.

The Puerto Los Cabos World Cup and Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held in October including fishing, high stakes poker and a one day surfing event.

The most beautiful hole in Mexico. And Maybe the world?

Hole 3B is not an inspiring name, so I can understand why a player looking ahead on the scorecard at the Pacifico course at the Punta Mita resort might not be all that excited about what’s coming up. Big mistake. Click Here for More Information.

THE FUTURE OF GOLF IN MEXICO SURVEY - GOLFINMEXICO.NET

What is the future for Mexico from the US and Canadian Golfer perspective?

"Golf is becoming more mainstream, it used to be a very elite sport it was extremely expensive. Every day there are more options and more people joining the sport. It's a great time to take advantage of this change in the environment and think of ways to segment the market in new and powerful ways."

"Have you heard of a future golf development project in Parras, Coahuila?
Nice weather, peaceful area, close to Monterrey and Saltillo?"

"I have had the opportunity on a few occasions to play Estella Del Mar in Mazatlan... very nice track , and I will continue to return when possible."

"Here in Baja Norte we have TJ cc, Real del Mar, Baja Mar and Ensenada CC. All of them seems to be able to stay open. TJ is cool because it's right over the border and downtown- with lunch a great experience- Real Del Mar is a great course that is the site of allot of local tournaments from industrial associations etc.. Baja Mar is long and along the ocean 27 holes- a more serious course but also a popular destination about an hour south of the border- Ensenada has recently been redone and is selling houses around it in a beautiful area- everybody is hustling- there are no magic answers or bullets- what I like is 35 bucks to play with cart and a margarita included!"

"The Golf in Mexico has excellent opportunities to grow, see Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, wonderful place to play golf all year."

"There is a Golf boom in Mexico, Normally is expensive but it is paid by the people."

"My own experience, I see people from the US and Canada going to places like Baja, Los Cabos, Cancun and Cuernavaca."

"I think that the aging demographic in the US and Canada bodes well for major growth in the retirement market in Mexico."

"I think the future can be bright....but right now...no one really knows about it. I write for a golf publication and just wrote an article on Maui golf which will be published in our February issue. Travel to Maui is no closer than travel to Mexico....especially Cabo San Lucas!"

"I think it looks good. Went with a group of 8 people to Playa last month. Golf was great, service was great. "

"Happy New Year, my perspective from an emergent resort destination as Loreto I think that we have in Mexico a really bright Tourist future of course things need to settle down a little, but in spite of all the negatives I see Mexico in general recovering as one of the top ten international destinations in terms of visitors and revenue. Is going to take us a couple years but it is happening, seriously."

"Mexico is a beautiful spot and as long as the locations with golf courses are safe to outside visitors, there will be business. But this is after people see some stabilization in the markets."
